A Jack Daniel's Sunset
The Dream Client
Since becoming a commercial photographer I have dreamed of photographing for Jack Daniel's. The dream finally came true. One of my associates hired me to work with his production crew, and shoot alongside a video team, on a project to capture content for an agency that is working with Jack Daniel's. Complicated I know, but it got me on set.
Growing Up In Tennessee
I moved to Tennessee when I was 13. I finished middle school here, went to high school here, and graduated from college here. Tennessee has become part of me. Jack Daniel's was my first alcoholic drink. I have so many memories that surround this Tennessee whiskey. It was the only alcoholic drink that was served at my wedding. I know I have said it before and I will say it again when we are photographing food and beverages we are not just photographing the food. We are trying to capture those memories of childhood, college, and friendship and our relationships. This is about more than food. It is about life. It is about the community that food creates.
The Shoot
The crew and I arrived at our location just as a torrential downpour began. We ran from our var to a shelter. We necessitated a few minutes and put on rain gear and readied our equipment for the rain. For the next hour and a half, we would photograph groups arriving at Jack Daniel's and checking in to their campsites in what could be categorized as a monsoon.
Dinner Break
For the crew dinner, the client provided us with a BBQ dinner on BBQ Hill. We enjoyed eating our dinner on top of an amazing hill while watching the sunset after a long afternoon of photographing content. It gave us some rest and recharged us for the next few hours of shooting. The sky decided to put on an exceptional sunset after what had been a day of torrential downpours.
